A Multi-award-winning composer, lyricist, music producer, writer, instrumentalist, filmmaker and performer, Smith writes and creates artistic content with the frequency of the tides, approaching his performances and writing with a wry and thought-provoking manner with loads of comedic absurdity and buffoonery thrown in.
A highly determined and competent creative writer, in the last few years, Smith has specialised in telling stories in shows in theatres and performing arts centres and in COVID times, has taken to writing and has produced films.
As a musician, he has performed at countless theatres across Australia, written jingles, songs and composed music for ballet and has released several original albums. Appearing as a session piano player on numerous recordings he has also had music featured on television, stage and in short films.
Working as a producer, he has also recorded several albums for local artists. Writing and creating across different art-forms and genres.
As a hobby filmmaker, In 2021, Damon debuted his film, Mental As Everything, after being selectedfor screening at Cinema Nova as part of the the Melbourne Documentary Film Festival. The film has been selected for numerous film festivals around the world and has taken out an award for the Chicago Filmness Festival and was a finalist in the MDFF.
Smith is a virtuosic piano player who can seamlessly flow between musical styles and performs in three of his own hugely contrasting stage shows that have all amassed 4 and a half and 5-star reviews.
In his show, Mental As Everything, Smith provides a funny, raw and thought-provoking cabaret that explores the multifaceted nature of mental illness through hilarious original songs and onstage buffoonery. Smith shares his deeply personal experience of living with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and bipolar disorder in a show that fathoms the highs and lows of living with a mental illness.
Smith is also co-writer/performer/producer, for Sun Rising - The Songs That Made Memphis, a world class, highly acclaimed stage show about the music of Sun Records and he also created, CRAZY ARMS – A Few Centuries of Piano Tinkering, a preposterously zany, musical adventure that spans the origins of the piano from its birth in 1709 through to the 20th century.
Damon also produces and films the popular YouTube video performance series, ‘The Night Sky Is A Jewellery Store Window’ and has made over 50 videos (and counting) that feature local and international singer-songwriters including, Barney Mcall, Iiz Stringer, Ruby Boots, James Kenyon, Anna Cordell and more
